The 5x gap
The jump from 2x to 5x is big. At 5x your boyfriend needs a lot of distance for anything more than your head and shoulders. For half-body shots, 2x is easier.
For in-between framing, ask him to use 2x and walk closer instead of pinching to 3x, which is a crop rather than a separate lens.
5x for photos that don’t look posed
Because he stands so far away, you forget about the camera. Walk, read a menu or talk to a friend while he shoots a burst at 5x.

Set up your iPhone 16 Pro before you hand it over
