The iPhone Air cameras, and what each one is for
| Zoom | Camera | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| 1x | Fusion Main 48MP, 26 mm, ƒ/1.6 | Full-body photos, travel shots, low light. |
| 2x | Telephoto (optical quality) 12MP, 52 mm, ƒ/1.6 | Portraits and half-body shots. |
Selfie camera: 18MP Center Stage camera, ƒ/1.9. Buttons: Camera Control, Action button.
One camera keeps it simple
With only 1x and 2x, there is less for your boyfriend to get wrong. The choice is simple: 2x when the photo is about you, 1x when it is about your outfit or the place.
Remember the 0.5x button doesn’t exist on this phone. If he can’t fit a big building in, he has to walk back. Your proportions stay natural that way.
Center Stage selfies for couple shots
The 18MP Center Stage front camera has a wider field of view than older selfie cameras, which makes it easier to fit two people and some background into an arm’s-length photo.
For a couple selfie, hold the phone a little above eye level and keep both faces at a similar distance from the lens.
Which lens to use for each shot
Full-body outfit
1x
Phone vertical at waist height, 2–3 m away. Leave a little space above your head and below your shoes.
Portrait
2x
He backs up until you fill the frame from the waist up. Keep the phone at your chest or eye level.
You and a landmark
1x
He walks back until the landmark fits, then you step toward him so you are not a dot.
Couple selfie
Front camera
Arm slightly above eye level, both faces the same distance from the phone.
Set up your iPhone Air before you hand it over
- Set the Action button to open the Camera, so a press puts him straight into the viewfinder.
- Turn on Settings > Camera > Grid and Level. The grid gives your boyfriend lines to line you up with, and the level shows when the phone is straight.
- Wipe the lenses with a soft cloth. A fingerprint on the lens is the most common reason a phone photo looks hazy.
- Open InstaBF, frame the shot yourself and lock it. Your boyfriend lines his live view up with your saved frame instead of guessing.
What to tell him
“Use 2x, step back until I’m cut at the waist, and keep the phone at my chest height.”
iPhone Air questions
Does iPhone Air have an ultrawide camera?
No. It has a single 48MP Fusion camera with 1x and 2x options. To fit more in, step back.
Is iPhone Air good for photos of me?
Yes. The 2x option is well suited to portraits, and 1x handles full-body shots. What matters most is that your boyfriend uses the right one and holds the phone at the right height.
