Agree on the final shape and action
Ask where the video will be used so you can choose vertical or horizontal framing before recording. Keep that orientation through the clip. If the person wants a full outfit video, leave room for shoes and movement rather than framing a tight portrait.
Describe one action with a start and an end: walk from the doorway to the table, turn once, or look up from a book. Ask your partner to rehearse while you watch the preview. That tells you whether the movement will leave the frame.
Make the first version a stationary shot
Hold the phone with both hands, keep your elbows comfortable near your body and stay in one place. Let your partner create the movement. Starting with both the camera and subject moving makes it harder to see which part is causing a shaky or confusing result.
Begin recording before the action and keep recording briefly afterward. Those still moments give you choices when trimming. Avoid zooming repeatedly during the take; if you need a closer view, stop and film a second shot.
Review motion, light and sound
Play back the clip, not just the thumbnail. Check that the subject stays in frame and that movement feels comfortable to watch. If brightness shifts as the subject moves, try a route with more consistent light.
