Film a small sequence with a beginning, an activity and an ending. Different views of one experience tell a clearer story than unrelated camera movements.

Start with one small story

Choose a moment rather than the whole holiday: arriving at a café, walking to the beach or exploring a market. Decide on vertical or horizontal framing before you start. Consistency makes the clips easier to combine later.

Tell your partner which clips you need so filming feels finite. You can divide the shots between you and take turns appearing on camera. A short shared plan is easier than asking someone to record everything all afternoon.

Capture five clips with different purposes

Begin with a wide view that establishes the place. Next, film an arrival: walking into the scene or opening a door. Show the activity in a medium view, such as choosing a pastry or looking at the sea.

Add a close detail that belongs to the same moment, then finish with an ending: walking away, a wave or a quiet view together. Hold each composition long enough to include a still moment at the start and finish. You can trim later; a clip that begins mid-swing is harder to use.

Edit for the memory, not the number of clips

Choose the clearest version of each shot and arrange them in the order the experience happened. Remove repeated views that add no new information. If you recorded useful ambient sound, listen before covering everything with music.
